Professional Development Educator

  • 8 hours varied shift hours, 80hrs per 2wks, 1.0 FTE 

The Professional Development Educator works under the direction of and in collaboration with the Department Manager(s). S/he demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of nursing and serves as a clinical resource and role model within his/her area of expertise. The Professional Development Educator continuously engages in environmental scanning to identify opportunities both within and external to the organization in order to achieve the specialty role outcomes of learning, change, professional role growth, and optimal care. The Professional Development Educator fulfills his/her organizational functions according to the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty, and partner for practice transitions.

The Professional Development Educator supports licensed and non-licensed healthcare personnel in onboarding, orientation, education ongoing competency, and role development. S/he facilitates collaborative partnerships and promotes and participates in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives. The Professional Development Educator carries out these responsibilities in alignment with the current Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice, and utilizing the nursing process as applied to the specialty (assessment, learning needs and outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation). This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area.  

  • 3 years ICU and/or Telemetry nursing experience, CCRN certification preferred.

Minimum Education/Training:

  • Graduate of Accredited Registered Nursing Program.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.

Registration/Certification or License Required:

  • RN licensure to practice in the State of Michigan.
  • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider or completed within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Education:

  • Graduate/post-graduate.
  • Association for Nursing Professional.
  • Development certification.
  • Masters in Nursing or related field

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior professional development education experience.
  • Certification in specialist area.
  • Prior experience with electronic patient documentation system.
  • Experience with use of A/V equipment/technology.
  • Bilingual.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift / Carry up to 50lbs
  • Push / Pull up to 50-100lbs
  • Occasional standing and walking.
  • Occasional climbing, twisting, bending, reaching and kneeling.
  • Occasional taste / smell.
  • Frequent sitting, find motor skills, and keyboard use.
  • Continuous talking and hearing.
