Position Description

TheĀ  Occupational Health Advanced Practitioner functions as a primary provider in the Occupational Medicine clinic for employees and students under the direction of the Occupational Medicine Physician and in collaboration with the UHS Medical Director for ongoing patient care management. The Practitioner applies the clinical process, assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation in providing medical care for occupational health problems, most are related to the complex and unique research environment; is responsible for managing the Occupational Health clinic ensuring appropriate policies and procedures that support quality care and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Practitioner designs and implements medical surveillance programs for preventive and health maintenance programs based on employee and campus needs. Work is performed under direction of Occupational Medicine Physician.

  1. Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats work-related injuries and illnesses. Assess patient's health care need under the direction of the Occupational Medicine Physician. 40%
  2. Advocates for patients with work illnesses/injuries to ensure prompt and appropriate medical care. Educates employees as to the nature of the illness/injury and expected course of treatment. 20%
  3. Manage staff assignments, performance, and workflows to assure efficient clinic operations. 10%
  4. Develops, implements, evaluates, and updates clinic programs in response to campus programs needs and in collaboration with the Occupational Medicine Physician and/or campus stakeholders. 10%
  5. Maintains current knowledge of legislation and regulations that may affect requirements for the workplace, employees, delivery of care, and function of the Practitioner. 5%
  6. Provide leadership and growth of clinic services through development and maintenance of internal and external stakeholder relationships. 10%
  7. Serve as the Occupational Health representative on key campus committees such as Institutional Biosafety Committee, Occupational Health Committee and Biosecurity Task Force. 5%
