Position Description
General Summary:
The purpose of this job is to work autonomously within the scope of practice and credentials in managing health problems and providing health care to clients. Performs assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of clients, including ordering and dispensing medications. Provides primary care services, counseling, and education on health-related matters based on assignment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assesses and documents client medical history and symptoms for staff and students of school or Family Planning/STD clients based on assignment.
- Performs routine, problem-focused, and/or comprehensive physical exams as indicated.
- Orders, performs, and interprets screening and diagnostic tests.
- Diagnoses of various acute and chronic health ailments vary based on assignment.
- Orders and/or administers medications and treatments to school clients, including staff and students, or to Family Planning/STD clients based on assignment.
- Counsels and educates clients and families on positive health-promoting lifestyle choices, disease, injury, and illness prevention.
- Performs related work as required.
Family Planning/STD Clinic Provider
- Completes invasive medical procedures within the scope of practice and follows established policies and standards.
- Must obtain T.B. Management Certification through MDCH within the first year and maintain requirements for continued licensure and certifications
- Critical thinking.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing or a related field
- 5 to 7 years of related work experience in acute care and public health
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner or Michigan Physician's Assistant License.
