Job Description
General Purpose of Job:

- Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
- Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and patient’s responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered.
- Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to ensure quality care.
- Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Med Surgical Unit as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to the age of the patient served.
- As necessary, performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Med Surgical Unit as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
- Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmental to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities in accordance with established standards.
- Attends annual skills presentations and other mandatory meetings/in services (fire, infection control). Attends regularly scheduled unit meetings.
- Actively participates in Quality activities, Nursing Committees/Councils, and other applicable activities related to the care plan of the patient within and beyond the hospital care provided.
General Requirements
- Current License in the State of Michigan
- BLS required
- ACLS and PALS Certification preferred and required within 12 months of hire.
- None
- Telemetry experience preferred, must complete competency test upon hire and annually or complete an EKG class and testing within 6 months of hire
- Graduate of school of Nursing
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
